Another hugely satisfying week and a half bites, the proverbial dust, again !!! Clients, organising, and booking more, for next seasons sorties out into the Elenydd, and of course, Rhayader has been hosting the Enduro GP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS moto cross. This is stage 4 of the series, and , once again, this bustling, mid Wales town has been welcoming the huge event !!! Is she tired, nooooooooooooooh, of course not, hospitality, and a “can do” attitude are very much at the fore ………

When I do have the rare morning, or afternoon off, I still like a good burn on the mountain bike, out in the Elan Valley, sometimes off grid, other times just doing the loop around all the lakes, before I take a client out, up a secretive river in deepest Radnorshire, or dabble on one of the many feeder streams of the Elenydd. I have a favoured few in the vastness of the Cambrian mountains . Four are particularly good fun, only small five or six inch brownies reside in these fascinating streams. They are still mega good fun to catch, with the six foot, one weight rod, a box of my favourite Welsh dry flies, and of course bags of energy !!!!

The weather has once again been hard work. I say that loosely, as it’s very much in evidence on most of the tributaries that a great deal of rain is desperately needed!!!! I hark on about this pretty much in every blog, so, I’ll say no more.

Rob from London had a particularly tricky day on a wild stream. I do mention to clients about the conditions prior to them heading up, so the ball is then in their court. The beauty of here, and the glorious Elenydd, is we have masses of wild untouched stillwaters too. So, should the streams be really hard going, there’s always a mountain Llyn, to test your skills against lightening fast brownies, that are true survivors up in the harsh conditions of the Welsh mountains…..

Fortunately, some of the wild streams are spring fed, so even in these tough,”rain free” times that we are experiencing, they still flow with some gusto, and, sport can be great fun on them. One is particularly strange, with fish that aren’t partial to rising, so, the old duo tactics, or dry dropper, as they call it across “ the pond “ is used to good effect . I went for a couple of hours the other evening , ‘twas very good in fact, on a private stretch I have, just up from the Fishing Passport beat. A fun, successful early evening was had. Nine on the nymph, and actually two spirited fish that nailed my rusty klinkhammer. Great fun I must say ……

Two small feeder streams are going to be field tested this week, along with one of the mountain llyns, I haven’t been up to in a while. An athletic client wants a the “mountain Llyn” experience, so, mid week, a full dynamic day out in the wilds of the Cambrian Mountains will take place. He’s only fairly local, from Worcestershire, so not a terribly long journey in fairness. Lots of my clients enjoy the camper or camping experience, with some this season, “wild camping” out in the Elenydd. With camper vans now pretty much self contained for off grid living. It’s a no brainer really, and it provides masses of flexibility, should they want a days guided fishing up at Nantymoch reservoir, or on one of the Trisant lakes heading over to Aberystwyth. A huge saving on fuel, and means I can fish with them basically into the gloaming !!!! Now, that’s what you call a full days guided fly fishing. In return, they’ve often rustled me up a cracking bacon sarnie, whilst sat on the banks of Nantymoch reservoir….. Now, that hard to beat I can tell you !

That basically wraps up this brief blog, as it’s a Sunday, the mandatory Sunday chores have been nailed by yours truly, after a lovely evening with Daisy May, which, consisted of playful dogs, great banter, fantastic food, and a movie that was bordering on the dull side, but alas who cares, company is everything, and, Netflix, as good as you are, sometimes, even a movie thats trending doesn’t cut the mustard ……. Sorry !!!!!! lol ……

Looks like we’re in for a band of rain tommorrow, will it be the usual drizzle or something more substantial. There’s a storm brewing for UK isn’t there. Storm Floris, looks like it’ll be a beast up into Scotland, and the Highlands etc … We could almost do with a good bit of rainfall over mid Wales…. We’ll see what tommorrow brings . Hope springs hey !!! I’ve a lot more river days to fit in this season, along with the usual back end reservoir days, so water is very much my ingredient of choice !!!!

So, on that note, here’s hoping it’s a full on day, of decent pukka rain tommorrow. I think Rhayader can now breath a sigh of relief, that’s a Carnival, a Royal Welsh Show, and the ENDURO GP moto cross championships done and dusted …. It’ll be nice to get back to normal in fairness. Peace and tranquility will once again reign supreme, for a short time, till the next bank holiday ….. Ha Ha !!! Mind you, I’m normally “Far from the Madding Crowd” on a bank holiday, with a client, on a wild stream in the absolute middle of nowhere !!!! Enjoy the rest of your weekend guys n gals…… and if you’re angling, enjoy every minute of it !!!!! 🎣🎣🐟🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
